Wen Jiabao meets Spanish PM

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has met visiting Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. The Spanish prime minister arrived in Beijing on Thursday, for a three-day official visit. Both sides have pledged to improve bilateral ties and further cooperate in trade, economic and cultural areas.
Premier Wen Jiabao held a welcoming ceremony in honor of his Spanish counterpart at the Great Hall of the People.
The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations and international issues of common concern.
Premier Wen Jiabao called for both sides to increase exchanges between governments, parliaments and political parties, and do more to build up mutual trust.
On economic issues, Wen Jiabao proposed that China and Spain enhance cooperation in technological development, transportation and finance. He said the two countries should help with the cooperation between enterprises and promote mutual investment.
The Chinese premier said both sides should seek ways to promote a more positive balance of bilateral trade. He said China would import more Spanish products.
Wen Jiabao also called for both sides to promote human exchange and enhance non-governmental ties.
And he thanked the Spanish government for its commitment to the One China Policy.
Zapatero said Spain supports China's economic development drive and reunification cause. He also praised China's efforts in building democratic and legal systems.
The Spanish Prime Minister also spoke highly of China's important role in the international community, and hoped that the two countries would increase consultation in international affairs.
After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a number of law and trade agreements.
