Iraqi troops kill 30 militiamen

Moving to the Middle East now and U.S. and Iraqi troops has killed 30 Shi'ite militiamen in fierce street battles. The clashes occurred in the southern city of Diwaniya on Sunday.

The fighting lasted over five hours. The US military says the operation-involved efforts to arrest a "high-value" target. The military said an M-1-A-2 Abrams tank was severely damaged in the clashes. They erupted after militants opened fire with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades on U.S. and Iraqi forces. The attack underlines the chronic insecurity gripping Iraq... where an estimated 100 people die violently every day.
