Members of the stalled six party talks have openly condemned the DPRK's nuclear test, and some have called for a firm response from the UN Security Council. Meanwhile, others have reiterated that the door to a diplomatic resolution is still open.

Chinese ambassador to the U.N. Wang Guangya reiterated his position that a strong reaction is necessary--but a diplomatic solution is still possible.

"I think that we have to react firmly, but also I believe on the other hand, that the door to resolve this issue from a diplomatic point of view is still open."

And while Russia condemned the nuclear test, it still hoped the DPRK could return to negotiations.

VLADIMIR PUTIN
RUSSIAN PRESIDENT

"Russia certainly condemns the test carried out in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It doesn't just concern North Korea; enormous damage has been done to the process of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the world. I hope North Korea will return to the negotiating process."

South Korea urged caution and careful consideration, stating that haste would have negative consequences.

ROH MOO-HYUN
SOUTH KOREAN PRESIDENT

"It is better for the government to face this crisis full-on, and share opinions nationally and internationally rather than cope with it urgently and arbitrarily."

And the United States called the test a threat to international peace and security.
