Chinese envoy meets DPRK leader

A special envoy to Chinese President Hu Jintao has gone to Pyongyang for talks with Kim Jong II leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. That's according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The visit by State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan's who hopes to help solve the nuclear crisis on the Korean peninsula.

In a wave of intense diplomacy following Pyongyang's nuclear test last week, China is once again making its presence felt.

Foreign ministry spokesman, Liu Jianchao, said veteran diplomat, State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan's visit to Pyongyang will give him a chance to exchange views with Kim ... on how to scale-down tensions.

Liu Jianchao said, "This morning the Secretary-General of the DPRK Communist Party, Kim Jong-il, met State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan. Tang conveyed President Hu Jintao's message to Kim. They exchanged views on Sino-DPRK relations and discussed the current situation on the Korean Peninsula."
