In the 1930s and 1940s, the city of Yan'an was a revolutionary base where Chairman Mao commanded the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the Liberation War. Decades later, Yan'an has become an inspirational pilgrimage site.

Liu Ming from CCTV in Yan’an, Shaanxi Province said, “The color red represents revolution in modern Chinese history. Red route travel is becoming increasingly popular across the country. Yan'an, in northwest China's Shaanxi province, is one of the hottest destinations. A rising number of tourists are coming to follow in the footsteps of revolutionary pioneers.”

Dai Suxiu and her colleagues came all the way from XXX. [Copy editor's note: Stress how far they traveled to get to Yan'an, not that they're in Yan'an.] She said they travelled here not only to visit some tourist attractions but also to experience the spirit of Yan'an.

Dai Suxiu, tourist said, “We are all excited to be here. I think the spirit of Yan'an comes from the fearless and indomitable traits of the old-generation revolutionaries. We should inherit that spirit and stick to it, especially when we are in adversity.”
