Wen Jiabao meets African Leaders

Premier Wen Jiabao has met separately with leaders from eight African countries as they talked about international and regional issues. Discussion on ways to further bilateral ties was the other key item on the agendas.
During the meeting with South African President Thabo Mbeki, Premier Wen said the two countries are not economic rivals. It was proposed that they cement cooperation in trade, investment and personnel training. Mbeki believes with a good friend like China, his country can better face the problems and challenges in peace and development.
Premier Wen thanked Algeria for its long-term stance on the one-China policy. He told President Abdelaziz Bouteflika China supports Algeria's desire to join the WTO. Bouteflika encouraged Chinese entrepreneurs to expand their investments in his country with particular reference to cooperation in hydropower and telecommunications.
