WTO admits Vietnams as new member

Source: CCTV.com | 11-08-2006 08:47

The World Trade Organization has formally admitted Vietnam as its 150th member, though Vietnam's parliament still needs to approve the accession documents.

Vietnam's economic growth is predicted to rise by 7.8 percent in 2006. The country is Asia's second fastest growing economy behind China. It's also the second most populous nation behind Russia still outside the W-T-O. Vietnam expects membership to give it greater access to international markets, and help attract more foreign investors. A decade of economic growth has halved the number of poor people in the country.
