WHO to choose new director-general from 5 candidates

The WHO's executive board has begun hearing presentations from five candidates aiming to be the next director-general of the UN health body. The board is expected to choose one name on Wednesday to put to the World Health Assembly, the WHO's top decision-taking body.

Interviews of the five candidates by the WHO's executive board began on Tuesday and will last through Wednesday. The 34-member board will then go through another series of votes to select one candidate. They will then recommend their choice to a special meeting of the WHO's top decision-taking body, the World Health Assembly.
