Israel kills at least 18 in Gaza

Israeli tank shells pounded a residential neighborhood north of Beit Hanoun early on Wednesday. At least 18 people were killed while they slept during the attack. A health ministry official said, of the 18 dead, seven were children, and a further 40 civilians wounded. The Palestinian cabinet announced it would hold an emergency meeting to discuss the attack. The Israeli army has meanwhile remained silent about the incident.
