The Year of Russia in China concludes

The eight-month event, Year of Russia in China, has come to a successful close. A closing ceremony was held in Beijing on Thursday evening.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Russian Prime Minster Mikhail Fradkov each delivered a speech. Another highlight of the ceremony was a performance by Russia's world-famous Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra.

During the Year of Russia in China, which spanned most of 2006, more than 200 activities, including cultural festivals, business promotions and high-level exchanges, greatly strengthened the traditional friendship between the two countries. It also pushed forward strategic partnerships between the two nations. In 2007, the Year of China will be held in Russia.
