China Health Minister voices support for Chan

Chinese Health Minister Gao Qiang says Beijing will continue to support the WHO and the work of its new chief.

He said:"We will support Margaret Chan's work for the health of the world's people. We are willing to strengthen cooperation and communication with the WHO. China is ready to improve its efforts on public health, and hopes to introduce China's situation to the rest of the world through the WHO."

China is congratulating Margaret Chan on her appointment as Director General of WHO. The government says it fully supports her. It believes Chan has the capability and experience to implement her world health goals.
