Palestinian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Zahar has accepted an Arab-drafted proposal for an international peace conference with Israel. The conference would contain fresh measures aimed at bringing the long-running Palestinian-Israeli conflict to an end.
Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said Arab nations will offer financial and material aid to the Palestinians regardless of the political and financial blockade imposed by Western powers since Hamas swept into office in March. The proposal urges the international community to resume providing aid to the Palestinians and release and return their taxes to the Palestinian National Authority.
Meanwhile, the proposal condemns Israeli hostilities in the Palestinian territories. Particularly the recent Israeli attack in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, which killed at least 18 Palestinian civilians.
