Coal mine accidents kill 60

Two coal mines accidents in the northern Chinese province of Shanxi have killed at least 60 workers. Twenty-five people have been confirmed dead and nine others are missing after a deadly coal mine fire in Shanxi on Sunday. Two miners have survived the accident. Thirty-six miners were working underground when the accident happened. Top officials from the State Administration of Coal Mine Safety and the Shanxi provincial government are supervising rescue operations. In another deadly accident a week before a gas blast in Xinzhou has left 35 people dead and 12 are still missing.

A report released by the State Administration of Work Safety shows that China's coal mine safety is getting worse. The state safety watchdog reported that Coal mine accidents have claimed 104 lives in the past eight days.
