Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has met with the Chairman of the DPRK's Supreme People's Assembly, Choe Thae Bok. Their discussions were held in Tehran on Saturday.

During the talks, Ahmadinejad called for deeper ties with the DPRK, but urged nuclear disarmament on the Korean peninsula. Choe said his country would strongly try to promote ties and cooperation between the two countries. The United States and Europe are pressing for tough sanctions on Iran for its refusal to halt uranium enrichment. Iran has shrugged off threats of sanctions, insisting that the West will have to agree to negotiate with it over its nuclear energy program. The United Nations imposed sanctions on the DPRK after it tested a nuclear device last month.
