Palestinian leaders are calling on the people in Gaza to adopt new tactics to resist Israeli bomb threats. This comes after Israel cancelled an air raid on the homes of Palestinian militants on Sunday. This marked the first time Palestinians have formed human shields to prevent an airstrike.
Israel called off airstrikes on the homes of two militants after hundreds of Palestinians crowded around the buildings. They were forming human shields to force the Israelis to re-evaluate their aerial bombing campaign in the Gaza Strip.
People flocked to the homes of the leaders after learning that the homes would soon be bombed.
Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneya went to a house in Jabalya to encourage Palestinians to adopt the new tactic.
He said: "Israel will respond and react when this strong will of power stands out, as well as our men and women standing to protect these houses. We are very sure that the occupation will retreat in response to these actions every time we stand together for the protection of our people and land."
The Israeli army said it called off the night-time airstrikes because of the large crowds.
An Israeli spokesman accused gunmen of using civilians in the camp as human shields. But Israel also says it will continue its strikes against militants.
On the same day, an Israeli aircraft missile destroyed a car in Gaza City, killing one man and injuring six others.
