Special Report:   Hu visits 4 Asian nations

President Hu Jintao's state visit to India is aimed at forging closer ties between the two countries, that could lead to far-reaching influence. On Tuesday the leaders of both countries promised to develop their partnership regardless of obstacles.

Hu Jintao's visit to New Dehli is the first by a Chinese president in a decade.

But this reception is more than ceremonial. Many see it as representing the burgeoning ties between China and India.

And the president is here with clear goals.

Hu said: "I'm looking forward to in-depth discussion with Indian leaders on bilateral relations and issues of shared interest and I'm looking forward to working together with them for further development of our strategic and cooperative partnership."

Hu Jintao said this partnership has regional and global significance, a view shared by his Indian hosts.

They pledged to cement closer ties, and resolved to overcome all possible hurdles ahead.

The two sides agreed to deepen dialogue, increase trust, double trade volume, and broaden cooperation.

Hu Jintao proposed more coordination in technology, infrastructure, travel and tourism, and negotiations on border issues.

Agreements were signed on science, energy, culture and investment.

More agreements can be expected, as the Chinese President will stay in India for four-days.
