Lebanese Minister of Industry has been assassinated in a Beirut suburb. The country's President has condemned Tuesday's killing of Pierre Gemayel, calling it a "terrorist act". He has also vowed to hunt down the killers.
Witnesses say Gemayel was shot in his car in Jdeideh, a Christian neighborhood that's also his constituency in northern Beirut.
A car rammed Gemayel's car from behind, after which an assailant stepped out and shot him at point blank range.
The seriously wounded Gemayel was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Lebanese president Emile Lahoud said: " We will not allow this terrorist act to go unpunished. We will do the impossible to find the perpetrators because I assure you those criminals are against all Lebanese."
As a supporter of the anti-Syrian parliament majority, Gemayel is the fifth anti-Syrian figure to be assassinated in the past two years in Lebanon.
Former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was killed in a car bomb attack in February, last year .
Gemayel was first elected to parliament in 2005. He's believed to be the youngest member in the Lebanese legislature, which is dominated by anti-Syrian groups.
