Palestine and Israel continue firing : Top Hamas commander killed

Palestinian militants have continued firing rockets into southern Israel, as Israeli forces conducted a raid against a militant stronghold in Gaza.

The Israeli army launched a broad offensive into Gaza early Tuesday. A top Hamas commander and an elderly woman were killed during a gun battle. Later, Palestinian militants fired at least two rockets at the Israeli town of Sderot, seriously wounding one person. Israel has intensified its raids in Gaza since militants captured an Israeli soldier in a deadly border raid in June. Israel has killed more than 370 Palestinians in Gaza, half of them civilians, since it began the offensive. Palestinian gunmen have fired more than 25 rockets at Israel since Monday evening.
