Israeli troops advance on Gaza towns

Israeli ground troops, tanks and armored vehicles have advanced on the two northern Gaza towns of Beit Hanoun and Jebaliya. They're said to be pursuing Palestinian rocket squads.
Three teenage Palestinian girls have been wounded by Israeli fire outside a school in Beit Hanoun, and a Hamas member was shot dead while launching a projectile. Hamas commanders have told fighters not to travel in cars, for fear of Israeli airstrikes.

The Israeli army launched a broad offensive into Gaza early Tuesday. A top Hamas commander and an elderly woman were killed during a gun battle.

Palestinian leaders are calling on the people in Gaza to adopt new tactics to resist Israeli bomb threats. This comes after Israel cancelled an air raid on the homes of Palestinian militants on Sunday.
