The DPRK's envoy to the six party talks on the Korean peninsula nuclear issue, has arrived in Beijing. Kim Kye-gwan will join the US, South Korean and Japanese envoys for an expected series of bilateral meetings with their Chinese counterpart on a planned resumption of the talks.

The six-way discussions bring together hosts China, the DPRK, South Korea, the US, Japan and Russia.

Pyongyang agreed to return to the table after its underground nuclear test last month, which triggered widespread international condemnation and UN-backed sanctions.

Kim Hye-gwan, DPRK chife negotiator, said "We told the United States on October 30th that we can always come back to the talks because after the nuclear test, we have gained defensive position against those who are trying to suppress us, and now we are in a very confident position and so we are ready to come back to the talks anytime."

Washington provided more incentive for Pyongyang's return when it said it was willing to address its concerns about financial restrictions which have been tightened since last year.

US Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill has said he expects the talks to resume in mid-December.
