US Defense Secretary candidate says US not winning in Iraq

In the US,President George W. Bush's choice to take over the Pentagon, Robert Gates, says America is not winning in Iraq.
He has also warned that the Middle East could explode into violence. He made the remarks during confirmation hearings before the Senate Armed Services Committee.
After just a day of questioning, the committee unanimously recommended that Gates be confirmed as successor to former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
During testimony, Gates said Bush wanted him to take a fresh look at the war. And that all options were on the table.
He also said the US needs to seek another approach in the war in Iraq. And Gates added that he would consult widely on all available options in Iraq.
