The 6-party talks are to resume on Monday. China and the US are both hoping to make substantial progress. They also share a cautionary approach, calling for patience from all sides.

The pre-talks negotiations have finally come to a conclusion. And despite the DPRK insisting that financial sanctions should be a top-agenda item, all 6 parties have consented to resuming talks next Monday.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang hopes for the long-stalled talks to make progress this time round, with a caution that patience will be necessary.

Qin Gang, spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry, expressed, “The DPRK nuclear issue is a long-term one. It is very complicated and sensitive, therefore requires even more calm, patience and compromise. ”

China, DPRK and the US decided on the resumption without setting the exact date in an informal meeting two month ago. US envoy Christopher Hill says that weeks of active diplomacy have helped to pin down the date.

“Our cooperation with China over the past few weeks has been unprecedented in the entire six party process.”Said Christopher Hill, the US assistant secretary of State

And Hill echoes China's cautionary approach towards the up and coming talks.

Hill said,“I'm not here to predict success or to express optimism, but I'll have a much better picture of that probably a week from now.”

China and the US agree that the purpose of the talks is to implement a September 2005 agreement. In the agreement, the DPRK pledged to scrap its nuclear pursuits in exchange for energy and aid.
