GAZA, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian militants fired on Sunday afternoon two homemade mortar shells at a compound of the presidential guards close to President Mahmoud Abbas' headquarters in western Gaza City, security sources said.
The sources said that the two mortars shells were fired one after the other from a building not far from Abbas' home and headquarters, adding that one hit a nearby house and the other hit a base belonging to Abbas' special presidential guards.
Medics said that four people were injured in the attack, which is the first of its kind since the beginning of the gun battles between Islamic Hamas movement's militants on one side, Fatah and president Abbas' special guards on the other.
The ongoing armed clashes between the two sides have left one 19-year-old female student and more than 12 wounded all over the Gaza Strip.
