Israelis and Palestinians to talk

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says he plans to set up a committee with the Palestinians to discuss the issue of prisoners.

Olmert has presently ruled out peace talks with Syria, accusing Damascus of supporting Hezbollah and Hamas.

He said, "In the coming days we intend to set up a joint committee with the Palestinians to discuss the issue of prisoners on the basis of making it possible to move forward. We hope very much for an option to create talks with Syria. Recently we haven't felt that Syria's conduct lays the foundations for leading such talks."
