In Iraq, extra US troops promised by US President George W. Bush have begun to arrive. Dozens of trucks crossed the border between Kuwait and Iraq on Monday.

Tankers and trucks carrying army supplies and escorted by heavy-armored military vehicles moved through the southern province of Basra. They're carrying the first batch of the more than 20,000 extra US troops due to arrive in the country.

Bush announced on Wednesday that an additional 21,500 US troops will head to Iraq soon. The troop-surge is expected to improve the security situation, mainly in Baghdad and the western province of Anbar.
