The recent US deployment of an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf region is fueling rumors the country will attack Iran this April. But a top Iranian nuclear official said he believed that a Western military attack was highly improbable. But Iran is still readying to face the threat.

The deputy chief of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Saeedi, said he believe that bombing Iran's nuclear facilities was unlikely. But he stressed that Tehran has already adopted measures to deal with the threat.

Saeedi emphasized that his country would continue with its nuclear program despite the possibility that the UN Security Council may adopt even tougher resolutions against Iran.

The United States and Israel have never ruled out the possibility of military strike on Iran. Recently, US-Iranian relations deteriorated even further, after the recent arrest of Iranian diplomats by American forces in Iraq. In the last few days, Iranian forces also shot down an unmanned US spy plane.

The US decided to deploy its second aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf last Tuesday. The carrier, the USS John C. Stennis, will arrive in the Middle East in about one month, the first time since the start of the US-led war on Iraq in 2003, that the US has two carrier battle groups in the region.
