Iran says it's ready to talk if the United States makes a formal request for negotiations. However, the country also insists it will not suspend its nuclear program.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini reiterated Sunday that a suspension of uranium enrichment is "not acceptable." But he also mentioned the possibility of talks with the US.

Mohammad Ali Hosseini, spokesman Iranian foreign ministry, said "If the Americans officially propose talks about regional issues, we will consider this proposal."

The US and some allies accuse Iran of trying to produce nuclear weapons. Iran denies this.

Meanwhile, the Iranian president says his country will continue its nuclear activities.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iranian president, said, "We want to become a nuclear power and we have not accepted anything which might prevent us. And we have not retreated even one iota from the country's rights during our nuclear talks."

The UN Security Council approved sanctions last month to press for the suspension of Iran's nuclear programme. The sanctions are resulting in inflation in the country.

However, Ahmadinejad told Iran's parliament that not even ten more resolutions will affect the country's economy and policies.

He also believes Iran has isolated the US internationally and warns any attempt to isolate Iran will be fruitless.
