Iran studies US message to ease relations

Iran is studying a message from Washington that purportedly aims at easing relations between the two feuding countries.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini remarked on the message during a weekly news briefing. He admits there is a message from American officials that is under review.Hosseini did not elaborate on the content.

Earlier this month the US military detained five Iranian diplomats in northern Iraq. The United States accuses Iran of helping to provide roadside bombs that have killed American troops in Iraq.

A bitter standoff already exists between the two countries over Iran's nuclear program. Iran denies charges that it has interfered in Iraq or provided weapons to insurgents and it denies any intention to build nuclear weapons.
