US: Anti-war demonstrators call on Bush to withdraw troops from Iraq

Thousands of anti-war demonstrators in the US have called on President George W. Bush to withdraw troops from Iraq.

Organizers say this is just the beginning. They have planned coordinated efforts in Washington and across the country over the next week to lobby lawmakers to take action against the war.

Anger with the war in Iraq has brought them from distant states to the nation's capital.

Melissa Nalevanko, sister of US soldier killed in Iraq, said, "I'm here to show what the human cost of war is. It's senseless, and it's time for everybody to come home, so no one else has to go through what me and my family have gone through."

The rally on the Mall unfolded peacefully.
