Palestinian leaders hold urgent talks on rival Hamas and Fatah factions

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ismail Haneya are in Saudi Arabia for urgent talks to repair relations between rival factions Fatah and Hamas.

On Tuesday, King Abdullah welcomed Abbas to Jiddah. The presence of the Saudi monarch showed the kingdom's determination to mediate the factions as they struggle to overcome conflict and build a power-sharing agreement on a coalition government.

Street battles last week killed 29 people and wounded scores of others.
