The US Democrat-led Congress says that the Bush administration should be cautious when accusing Iran of fomenting a campaign of violence against US troops in Iraq.
It comes on Sunday as US military officials charged the highest levels in the Iranian leadership of killing 170 American forces.
The US military released photographs of weapons they claim have been used against American and Iraqi forces. Three senior US military officials in Baghdad believe that the technique used in the construction of the deadly bombs point to Iran. Senator Christopher Dodd says he is treating the latest report with skepticism.
Senator Christopher Dodd, said, "But I'm getting uneasy that they're trying to create a premise, set a premise for some future broader military action in Iran. I think that would be a huge mistake at this point."
Senator John Kerry says he has no doubt that "there are weapons flowing across the border" from Iran. But he is sure that the Democrats will ask tough questions in Congress.
Republicans say the US "will take the appropriate action" to protect US troops in Iraq.
