Special Report: Iraq in TransitionAt least 71 people have died in a bomb attack at a crowded market in central Baghdad. The tragedy happened as Iraqis mark the first anniversary of a Shi'ite shrine bombing that took the country to the brink of civil war.
More than 160 people were wounded in the deadly attack at the popular Shorja wholesale market. An Interior Ministry spokesman said three car bombs exploded in quick succession. But Civil Defense Authorities say the carnage was caused by five roadside bombs that blew up simultaneously around a multi-storied building.
A separate roadside bomb attack at another market in central Baghdad killed at least five people. Police have arrested three suspects.
