Israel: Controversial dig to proceed as planned

Elsewhere in the Middle East An Israeli archaeological dig near Jerusalem's al-Aqsa mosque will continue, despite a freeze on plans to build a walkway to the compound housing the shrine.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office said the dig would continue as planned. It started last week, the first stage in constructing the new bridge. Israeli authorities said no harm would come to the mosque or the Dome of the Rock, which is on the site of two razed biblical Jewish Temples.
