Iraq's borders with Iran and Syria have been closed. It's part of new security measures to clamp down alleged smuggling networks that Washington says supply weapons to militant groups.
Meanwhile, the leader of the biggest Sunni bloc in parliament has spoken out about new crackdowns he claims it targets only Sunni districts.
In southern Iraq, Iraqi forces closed two border points with Iran. They blocked the gates at checkpoints with large metal containers.
Similar measures were also taken at two border crossings with Syria.
Some three thousand Iraqi and British troops locked down the southern oil port city of Basra, trying to control Shi'ite groups and criminal gangs.
