Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is in Egypt looking for international support to a unity government. Meanwhile, the head of the Arab League has called on members to come up with a unified stance.
After talks with Abbas, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, has urged Arab states to come up with a strong and unified position.
Amr Moussa, said, "The Arabs do have the power to have an effect. The steps they take should be strong and balanced. When the Arabs cooperate their voice will be louder and stronger. There will be more Arab power which will deliver us to a good result."
But there appears to be divisions between Arab states, such as Egypt and Jordan.
Egypt has rejected imposing any conditions on the new government, but Jordan says the unity government must adhere to the demands of the Quartet, that is recognize Israel, renounce violence and accept interim peace deals.
Divisions also seem to have widened within the Quartet on how to deal with the new government after Hamas and Fatah group signed the Mecca agreement earlier this month. The US insists on maintaining the boycott, while some European countries and Russia favor a softer line.
