Special Report:   Cross-strait forum

In Xiamen, the city is hosting a cross-Straits Machinery and Electronics Trade Conference. The focus in past years has been exports to Taiwan. But this year, it's on a two-way flow.

The Taiwan-straits trade conference has been going on for eleven years now. The conference has not only contributed to the growth of the machinery and electronics industries, but also played a critical role in enhancing cross-straits "trade, communication, and friendship."

In addition, the conference also promotes exchange programs between the two sides in such diverse fields as trade and economics, and science and technology.

Indeed, one of the programs, the 2nd Taiwan Professional Recruitment in the Chinese Mainland Conference, had already opened on Friday, also in Xiamen. The number of attendees from Taiwan has doubled compared with last year, as job opportunities in the Chinese mainland continue to grow.

Wu Hongming, Graduate Taiwan Kinmen Technology college, said, "Thirty of us graduates have come here from Kinmen, and we think the job opportunities here are huge."

The conference also boasts some of the most well-known companies in the world. No wonder the number of attendees has risen.

Cai Zongzhi, Managing director Taiwan Fanya HR consultants, said, "Sixty percent of the professions attend the conference this year have work experiences and are positioned in the medium-high level."

The conference also set up an Internet site in order to make it easier for job seekers to find information and get in touch with prospective employers.
