Gates dismisses Russian accusations over anti-missile system

The US Defense Secretary is dismissing Russian accusations that Washington's proposed anti-missile system in Central Europe is in fact a done deal.

Robert Gates was in Moscow earlier on Monday in an attempt to allay Russian fears about the planned missile shield. Gates says he's offered Moscow a chance to cooperate by sharing data from early warning systems and conducting joint exercises. But Russia's Foreign Minister has dismissed the offer.

Sergei Lavrov says Moscow is not interested in participating in what he says is no longer a plan, but already a done deal which could harm security in Russia.
