Russian President Vladimir Putin says ballistic missile tests and a possible withdrawal from the Conventional Forces in Europe treaty are a direct response to US missile defense plans.
Putin says the tests are to maintain balance in the world order and should not be feared. He calls it an answer to rather tough and unjustified unilateral actions by western partners.
The US plans to deploy missile interceptors in Poland and radar units in the Czech Republic to extend the missile defense system in Europe. Russia is strongly opposed to the plan.
