Special Report: HK 10 YearsAs Asia's world city where the east meets the west, Hong Kong is characterized by the large number of expatriates living and working in the city. CCTV reporter Mao Xuzhi finds out how they view Hong Kong, 10 years after the Return.
Larry Feign is a political cartoonist. He first came to Hong Kong from the US in the 1980s with his Hong Kong wife. Larry says he fell in love with the city at first sight. And he's lived here ever since.
Like other expatriates, Larry's family talked a lot about whether to leave or to stay before Hong Kong's return. But Larry wasn't that all concerned.
Larry Feign said, "Quite a few people told me you'd better leave before the handover, or you'll be arrested or kicked out. But I wasn't seriously worried. I think people were being too much dramatic when they came to that."
Larry says he hasn't seen PLA soldiers in uniform patrolling the streets and nor the many predicted pessimistic scenarios. He feels quite relaxed.
Official statistics show that foreign nationals account for 70,000 out of a population of 7 million. That is to say, one out of every 100 people. And for the most part, they've found their place in the local community.
