LONDON, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Police defused a suspected explosive device in downtown London Friday.
The "potentially viable explosive device" was found attached to a vehicle parked in the Heymarket near the Picadilly Circus shortly before 2:00 a.m. (0100 GMT) in downtown London, police said.
The immediate area was cordoned off in precaution while the vehicle was examined by explosive officers.
"They discovered what appeared to be a potentially viable explosive device. This was made safe," police said in a statement.
The city's anti-terrorist police has launched an investigation into the incident and further information will be released later.
