The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region celebrated its 60th anniversary on Wednesday. It was the first of five provincial-level autonomous regions established in China. A delegation from the Central Government was at the large gathering in the capital city of Hohhot.
Ceremonial rifle shots opened the ceremony. Vice President Zeng Qinghong congratulated the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on its 60th birthday. He praised the great achievements the region has made.
Zeng Qinghong said, "The past 60 years in Inner Mongolian history is a great combination of Marxist theory and Chinese ethnic policies. It is a monument in the history of Chinese ethnic groups."
Zeng said great changes had taken place in the autonomous region. And he said it had made historic contributions to the country's development. The Vice President urged all Chinese people to further promote harmonious socialist ethnic relations.
The party secretary of Inner Mongolia- Chu Bo- thanked the Central Government and people across the country for their long support of the region.
