China's top quality supervisor Li Changjiang said the quality of China-made products is increasing year-by-year, and they are trustworthy. Li Changjiang made the remarks, on Monday, during a media briefing on issues concerning the recent toy recall and food safety.
Li Changjiang said the recent recall by the American company Mattel of millions of toys was not because of Chinese quality issues -- but because of poor design by the US company.
Li said, "Eighty-five percent of over 20 million toys were manufactured based on designs of American importers.I examined several samples myself. I found designing defects do exist. Whichever country they've been exported to -- those toys should be recalled as they can easily hurt children. Only 15 percent of those do not meet the current US standards for the amount of lead."
Quality and safety issues of made-in-China products have come under the international spotlight since March.
The top quality supervisor pointed out that the quality of China-made products is constantly improving.
He said the sales volumes in the global market offers good proof of their quality.
He also said, "China has over two hundred products whose output rank first in the global sales market. China-made electric fans take up 70 percent of the global sales volumes. It's the same with the cargo containers. Our garments are popular among buyers from different countries. All this is based on good quality. How can we win the market under fierce competition without the guarantee of quality? My conclusion is: trust China and China-made products. "
In addition, the top quality supervisor said experts are modifying the food recall system -- and the regulations are expected to be issued soon.
He acknowledged challenges in implementing this system -- as China has over 350-thousand small processing plants.
