Education equality has become one of China's most important issues in recent years. While millions have benefited from the country's nine year compulsory education system. There are still many others who are struggling to stay in school due to financial difficulties.

Now, the Ministry of Education says it will increase annual financial aid to 50 billion yuan to help these students.

Shabby desks and dark classrooms, such conditions are beyond the imaginations of urban children. The exemption of tuition and textbooks fees has made education affordable. But the government's new concern is that the children should learn in a better environment.

Chinese Minister of Education Zhou Ji said, "Education equality is an important part of social equality. We must make education our top priority and implement education equality as a basic national policy. We want to fulfill all children's school dreams to let them go to school and study well."
