Special Report: Mid-Autumn Festival GalaTuesday marks one of the most important dates on the Chinese Lunar Calendar - the Moon Festival. Over 100 parents in Guangzhou visited an orphanage on Sunday to share the event with the children.
The children and volunteer parents had never met before. But after a few games and conversations, they were as close as real family.
An orphan said, "I'm so happy, because so many uncles and aunties play with us and we also get a treat of mooncakes!"
Most of the volunteer parents are married couples that registered for community services. Some of them have even brought their own kids to play with the orphans and exchange gifts with each other.
"All the food and toys I brought were the choice of this little boy."
"I hope that we will be able to take these children out more often on public holidays and weekends."said a volunteer.
Many volunteers expressed hope that the day would not be just an enjoyable memory for the orphans, but would become an annual activity.
