Blair visits Israel in new role as peace envoy

The Quartet's Middle East envoy Tony Blair has met Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak. This is Blair's third visit to the region in his capacity as peace envoy.

It's part of a round of meetings with Israeli and Palestinian leaders to prepare for a regional peace summit scheduled for November.

Earlier Tuesday Blair met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, and he is expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert Wednesday.

Blair is expected to discuss a joint declaration or statement with Israeli and Palestinian leaders that both parties agree on so it can be read at the peace summit.
