Japan has decided to extend sanctions for a second time against the DPRK for another six months. Japanese analysts attribute this to little progress by Pyongyang regarding past abductions of Japanese nationals.
Japan first imposed six-month sanctions on the DPRK in October last year. They ban all DPRK exports to Japan and prohibit DPRK-flagged ships from calling Japanese ports. The sanctions were first extended in April.
