Japan to conduct naval drill with US, Australia

Japan says it will conduct a one-day naval drill with the United States and Australia next Wednesday. The drill will be carried out in waters west of southern Japan's Kyushu island.

Two destroyers and two anti-submarine patrol planes from Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force will take part in the small scale drill along with one patrol plane each from the U.S. Navy and the Australian air force. Japan says the drill is part of a trilateral goodwill exchange and is aimed at building confidence between the three countries.
