CPC seeks opinions for Party report

Special Report:   17th CPC National Congress

Leading figures outside of the Communist Party have discussed the report that Party General Secretary Hu Jintao will deliver to the 17th National Congress of the CPC on Monday.

Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the symposium. Leaders of the non-Communist parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce -- and non-party figures --- were invited to voice their opinions on the draft report.

The non-CPC members and non-party affiliated personalities made a favorable assessment of the work of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee since the Sixth Plenary Session of the 16th CPC Central Committee -- which was held in October last year.

The non-CPC members said China has implemented the concept of scientific development And quality of life has improved. They said the draft report comprehensively describes the historical situation China is in and its prospects of opening up and reform as well as socialist modernization. The non-CPC members said the draft report is the political declaration of the CPC as it faces the future and the world.

The participants also raised proposals in various fields including multi-Party Cooperation and Political Consultation, national rejuvenation through Science and Education and strategies for sustainable development. They also raised proposals relating to the well-being of people, and promoting social justice and harmony.

General Secretary Hu Jintao thanked them for their opinions and instructed the group that is drafting the report to carefully study and absorb the proposals.

The CPC leader stressed that multi-party cooperation and the political consultative system led by the CPC has played a key role in the political life of the country and that Chinese people should continue to strengthen this political basis.

General Secretary Hu said socialism with Chinese characteristics is the political consensus shared by all sides. Facing a controversial and complicated environment and shouldering the arduous task, Hu Jintao said the CPC should continue to cooperate and consulte with non-Communist parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce as well as persons without party affiliation on important issues, listening to their opinions and pooling their wisdom and suggestions.

Hu Jintao said he hoped the non-CPC members and non-party affiliated figures will continue to strive for solidarity and stability. And he hopes they will assist the Party and the government in strengthening social harmony, mobilizing social vitality and pushing forward "the great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics".
