Hu Jintao delivers keynote report at 17th CPC Nat´l Congress

Special Report: 17th CPC National CongressThe 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China opened at the Great Hall of the People on Monday morning. Hu Jintao, on behalf of the 16th CPC Central Committee delivered a keynote report, entitled "Hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics and strive for new victories in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects."
Hu pointed out that the theme of the meeting is holding high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics,taking Deng Xiaoping theory, and the thought of three represents as the guide lines, pushing forward the scientific outlook of development, continuing to emancipate thoughts, insisting to the opening up and reform policy, facilitating scientific development, promoting a harmonious society and striving for a well-off society in the whole nation.
The Great Hall of the People once again becomes the spotlight around the world.
The members of the Standing Committee of the presidium of the 17th CPC National Congress sitting on the front line include Hu Jintao, Jiang Zemin,Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Wu Guanzheng, Li Changchun, Luo Gan, Wang Lequan, Wang Zhaoguo, Hui Liangyu, Liu Qi, Liu Yunshan, Wu Yi, Zhang Lichang, Zhang Dejiang, Zhou Yongkang, Yu Zhengsheng, He Guoqiang, Guo Boxiong, Cao Gangchuan, Zeng Peiyan, Wang Gang, Li Peng, Wan Li, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan, Song Ping, Liu Huaqing, Wei Jianxing, Li Lanqing, Xu Caihou, He Yong, Wang Zhongyu.
At nine a.m. , the meeting started. Wu Bangguo presided over the meeting.
Wu Bangguo said, "At this solemn moment of opening of the 17th CPC National Congress,let's pay a silent tribute to Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping, Cheng Yun and other past old-generation proletariat revolutionists and heroes. There should be 2213 delegates to take part in the 17th CPC National Congress, and we also invite 57 special delegates. In all, 2270 delegates should participate in the Congress. Today, there're 2237 delegates present. Today's congress also has many non-communist party members and persons in charge of attending as non-voting delegates. Let's give them a warm welcome. Now Hu Jintao will deliver a report, on behalf of the 16th CPC Central Committee, to the Congress."
