17th CPC Nat´l Congress draws curtain, new central committee elected (lists)

Delegates attend the closing session of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing October 21, 2007. The Closing Session was started at 9:00 am on Sunday, at which a new CPC Central Committee and the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection would be elected. [Xinhua]

The curtain has just come down on the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. It has elected a new central committee of the Party.

The central committee was elected on Sunday morning by 2,235 delegates at the closing session of the congress. It includes 204 members and 167 alternate members.

During its first plenary session on Monday, the central committee will in turn elect the Political Bureau and the bureau's Standing Committee. The CPC Central Committee will make the key decisions for the Party during its five-year tenure.
